NEW PROPOSAL

While most agree the twelve-team playoff was a success despite a few non-competitive early games, a larger playoff structure will further help distinguish quality teams based on games won rather than conference allegiances.

Under the current twelve-team format, the championship game has moved deeper into January, with the 2026 title game scheduled for January 25, 2027. The proposed 48-team playoff will not extend this timeframe and will still maintain a nine-day window between the semifinals and the championship game.
